The Mystery Bugs at the Scene of the Crime

This is a bad bug.  A very bad bug.

One day I had bright, perky leaves on my okra plant, the next day I had a colony of these little things systematically sucking the life out of each leaf one by one causing them to wilt.

We saw them after they had only destroyed a couple of leaves, and my husband went out and “took care of them” for me this morning.

I asked no questions.

They are gone.  And that is all that matters.

I did learn a lot, though, in my research about this bug, which by the way after viewing 5,894.67 images, I could not fine one picture of it.

I learned that some bugs are actually beneficial, and it is usually good to see what a bug is doing before you kill it.

This goes against every natural instinct that I have.

But I love my vegetable garden and want what is best for it, so if that means a bug or two is fine, especially if it eats bad bugs, I am all for it.

I am exploring some organic alternatives for pest control for when it is actually needed, though.

I’ve heard good things about these:

neem oil

peppermint oil

hot sauce/water

insect soap

garden safe

About Extraordinary in the Ordinary

I am a professional photographer who lives and works from her heart. My goal is always and in everything to be better today than I was yesterday. I’m an ordinary person dealing with what I like to believe are ordinary issues, but in all the ordinary days, I want to live an extraordinary life. I am the mom to two grown sons, and there has been nothing I have loved more than being their mom and being home with them. And while you are always a mom, there is a certain part of that time in my life that is over now that they are grown. I miss hearing them play and having them with me all the time and having all their friends over, but it is time to move to the next stage of life or at least trying to figure out what that is. I am making a list of personal goals, connecting with friends, and still nesting even though the children are grown. I think I will always be a "nester". Home is where the heart is. I love home and love making it a healing place of peace and comfort.
