I had a dear friend who worried that in my effort to keep a good attitude that I might not be experiencing the worry and working through it. I will be honest. I have had meltdown moments. Ok, one, but it was a doozie.
I just don’t believe in living there. You won’t survive if you do. I will probably have others, but I feel them and then move on. My mom was like that, and I believe that is how she survived so much. I also heard Dr. Phil tell someone once that you give yourself 5 minutes a day or whatever, feel it, and then that’s it. You just can’t live there all the time. It matters a lot in life where you keep your focus. Also, while I like to plan for tomorrow, I can’t dwell there, or I will miss today, and that is the most horrible tragedy of all.
All that being said….here’s a meltdown moment just in case anyone else is wondering if I have them….
This gives an all new meaning to “health care crisis”. Actually, I believe it is why we have a health care crisis. This is where we are on Day 28 of our wait for the results. Yes, that is correct. We are still waiting for the 12-14 day test.
This is an utter disgrace that this has taken this long.
And the one thing we want control over is receiving the results on our own terms. Is that too much to ask?
We have no control over the results or the month of screw ups by both the doctor and the lab.
But the one thing we want control over is receiving the results on our own terms.
We don’t want to have to make another appointment.
Another appointment will mean an even longer wait.
Another appointment means that my husband will either not get a full night’s sleep or he will have to take off another day at work.
Another appointment will mean more money out of our pocket. And more in the doctors’.
So we pay for the test, but the results are going to cost extra…at a doctor’s rate none the less. We can’t get those without another appointment. A 5th grader could read what is written on a piece of paper. It’s funny how insurance companies will refuse to pay for certain tests, but they will pay for such wastefulness as this. If we have paid for the test, then that should include the results. Period.
You have to remember here that this doctor can do no more for him that read him the results and refer him to a neurologist. So this visit is a complete waste of time and money. We were wrongly referred to a geneticist. All he did was tell us what famous person had this disease, that there is no hope, and then someone from his office took the blood. Oh, and we found out after this that we had to scrounge up cash to pay him because they do not take debit cards or any type of credit card. They would not send the blood to the lab without us paying our copay, plus the shipping (yes, that is correct) in cash.
I don’t buy the “we need to coddle you” theory. If you wanted to coddle us, you would have gottent this all right to begin with, and we wouldn’t be on day 28 of a 12-14 day wait….and still not have the results. This is not about us. Let’s just be honest here. It is about control and money. How did we as patients and consumers lose this control?
Vent over.
Now, I am going to try and doing something fun and enjoyable the rest of the weekend. All realities simultaneously exist.
