Extraordinary in the Ordinary

Finding the Extraordinary in an Ordinary Life…

We’re All Going to Starve

if the world ever has to depend on us to grow enough food to feed the masses. Heck, we would be lucky to grow enough to feed one very tiny person for a light snack.

Remember, my little garden in which I was so proud of?  Well it is the saddest thing ever, what is left of it that is.

This is embarrassing, but here you go.  This is what is left of it.

Yeah, I know this is just grass.  I promise you we planted spinach here.

Our cucumber plant.

These are tomato plants and have been growing for about 8-10 weeks. But we planted tomatoes in here about four months ago, too.  I have no idea what happened to those. Either the ones I planted four months ago are very stunted or are missing.

I have high hopes for this one.  Please tell me it is not a weed.

My guess is that it was a lack of consistent water, and what water we did have was pretty heavy and probably washed any nutrients away, and we didn’t add any additional fertilizer.  Honestly, though, I am really not one of those people who loves to grow things. I love to eat them but not grow them.  I do not really like getting diry, sweaty or eaten by bugs, and too much sun and heat will give me a migraine.  Did I mention I live in the South?  So, you see, I am not sure this is going to work for me.  There has got to be a better way.

Oh, yeah, there is…it’s called a grocery store.

Thank goodness for backup plans.

Did I mention that I actually have the beginnings of a draft article entitled, “Grow Your Own Vegetables”?  Well, I was an optimistic gal if nothing else, wasn’t I?

Do you want to see what I wrote?  I was even curious myself, so let’s take a look (I laugh in the face of embarrassment and humiliation.):

“We planted our vegetable garden nine days ago…and look what we have now!”

That was it.

That wasn’t too bad.  That was as far as I got.  Thank goodness.  At least I didn’t proceed to tell you how to grow beautiful, yummy, healthy vegetables because obviously I know NOTHING on the matter.

We thought we did.

But we didn’t.

I am happy to say that this year is going MUCH better than last year.  Oh, by the way, that second to last one WAS a weed. It’s OK.  I can handle it now.
It makes this all that much sweeter….
